Montclair is a family-centered town and is home to Montclair State University. Montclair Township has approximately 175 acres of parks, offering something for everyone. Upper Montclair Business District is a cozy cluster of Tudor-style shops, restaurants and a movie theater. The Walnut Street Business District packs a lot into a couple of blocks: a premiere jazz club, an elegant art gallery, a premier supper club, two artisan bakeries, an Irish pub, and other popular restaurants and shops. There are many things to do in Montclair. There’s seasonal ice skating and hockey at the Clary Anderson Arena. Bike & Walk Montclair’s Last Friday of the Month Community Rides are geared for a relaxed, quiet evening bicycle ride through the streets of Montclair.
Fleet Feet Montclair has organized group runs/walks to support runners, walkers, and triathletes of all ages and abilities. Montclair’s art galleries are open and free to the public: BrassWorks on Grove, Midland Gallery, Pat Gail Gallery, Gallery 51, Gallery Loupe, Essex Fine Arts, Jacklyn Kling Gallery, and Studio Montclair’s Block Gallery. Acoustic Showcase Night at Tierney’s Tavern every Thursday night at 9 pm, the mic is open to anyone and everyone. Some of the most beautiful flora in Northern New Jersey fills the gardens of Van Vleck House, including a large collection of rhododendrons, a majestic wisteria that blooms in May, and lovely perennial beds. The estate covers almost 6 acres and is a prime example of the homes originally built in Montclair.
Glen Ridge Recreation Program offers programs, activities, and park facilities available for enjoyment by Borough residents. The facilities include 9 parks, 4 schools, the town pool, and the Glen Ridge Senior-Community Center. Included in the recreation areas are baseball, softball, soccer, football, field hockey and lacrosse fields, playgrounds, tennis and platform tennis courts, and a seasonal skate park. Special events include a Memorial Day Parade, Municipal Tree Lighting, Ashenfelter 8K Race and 1 mile Ridger Romp, Pumpkin Hunt, and an Egg Hunt. The center of Glen Ridge offers neighborhood stores including a coffee shop, pharmacy, automobile repair shop, cleaners, nail salon, yoga studio, florist and restaurants. Glen Ridge also boasts several bank branches and a full-service post office. Glen Ridge is only minutes away from the Township of Montclair’s Restaurant Row and downtown shopping.
Additionally several major shopping malls, including the Garden State Plaza, Short Hills, Livingston and Willowbrook are all minutes away.
