About the Area
A charming town in Essex County, South Orange is a thriving town with Mid-Town Direct train service to NY Penn Station. Originally consisting of farms, mills and orchards, South Orange is now a great mix of residential and commercial areas, featuring a thriving downtown village and train station, coming together to create a charming, dynamic and diversified community. The housing stock is predominantly Colonial and Tudor style homes with sprawling porches and ample greenery, but you can also find some Victorians and a range of more modern style ranch homes in a section called The Newstead, that reminds some people the Hollywood Hills section of LA. There are beautiful tree lined streets, many featuring antique gaslamps.
South Orange is a diverse town and shares its school system with sister town-Maplewood. There is abundant park space and some of the best sledding around. The town offers many activities to its residents from camps in the summer, arts and crafts classes, a public pool, tennis courts, basketball courts and a farmers market when in season. It has a great downtown shopping district with everything from restaurants with foods from all over the world, bakeries, dance studios, gyms, bookstores, a movie theater, a heralded Performing Arts Century SOPAC and more.
Easily accessible by its throughways and the New Jersey Transit, it’s no surprise South Orange has been acknowledge as a wonderful place to live in New Jersey.
